In November 2009 I completed an engagement as Sales & Marketing IT DEvelopment Manager with National Express Group where I project-managed the implementation and rollout of Charter, a Customer Relationship and Complaints Management system covering train, coach, bus and tram organisations, incorporating a system to automate the calculation and payment of DelayRepay compensation. I carried out process mapping, requirements specification and business process improvement, using the system to consolidate the CRM/CRO operations of five previously separate organisations. I implemented PMM, an agile tailored project management methodology based on PRINCE2, extended project culture across the group and introduced a requirements gathering and specification methodology (SRS) and process improvement methodology (SPRINT) working to Department for Transport audit standards. During this period I also managed the IT part of an office move by NX EastAnglia trains and replaced and extended the onboard computer and kiosk systems for the Heathrow Hoppa bus service and designed a web-based system for Assisted Travel for passengers with disabilities.

Trinity House, where I was engaged to project-manage the implementation of an engineering, stock control and procurement system with Finance, HR and H&S interfaces and remote link solutions for land-based and ship-board engineering teams, automation of operations aboard the Trinity House buoy tenders and new ship builds, following the recommendations of a major BPR exercise. I carried out process-mapping and process change, brought about cultural change in the operational areas and produced requirements statements and functional specifications for further extensions to the base system. I implemented modified PRINCE2 methodology and worked to Department for Transport and National Audit Office standards using PRINCE2 and SSADM.
The NEC Group Birmingham where I project-managed and carried out business analysis on intranet, e-business/e-commerce strategy, virtual ticketing systems and mBusiness (mobile-phone interface) facilities to enable on-line and mobile phone purchase and Internet and mobile phone delivery of tickets and merchandise related to NEC Events, as an addition to telesales, box office and postal purchase and fulfilment. I carried out a programme of business process re-engineering, including a Workforce Management Systems review and project-managed a Security Staff Scheduling system implementation for 1300 permanent and 4000 casual staff across five venues, developed prototypes of Ticket Admission Scanning (Virtual Tickets), analysed and designed workflow systems and documented business flows within an exhibition organising function and mapped to a new system.

Bovis Lend Lease Europe Ltd, a joint project management and business analysis role. I Reverse-engineered the Contractor Control System to manage up to 30,000 contractors on large building projects e.g. Bluewater Park, and Hummingbird (Project Control System) to plan and control building projects up to the size of Bluewater Park and project-managed both of these developments. I recruited and managed a team of seven business analysts working on full development, evaluation and investigation project lifecycles covering project initiation, change control, implementation, deployment, testing, QA and post implementation review.
Adare Printing Group, Dublin, where I worked as Programme Manager and Group IT Consultant and led a team of five carrying out a systems-based Business Process Re-engineering exercise after a recent takeover, and replacing the existing financial and accounts systems. I carried out four more system due-diligence investigations prior to corporate take-overs and replaced the systems for two companies to bring them into the Group and managed the Year 2000 Programme for 17 companies including KSP, Prontaprint, Kall Kwik, Platignum and Carwin. I managed a programme of business change for companies in the Group, carrying out analysis, project management and consultancy on a variety of process improvement and business restructuring programmes for the whole Group. I developed an Internet, Intranet and Extranet strategy to secure the Group’s supply chain and provide advanced on-line ordering, with provision of an Internet e-commerce front end covering 17 companies with dovetailing into back-end systems and carried out business analysis, project management and consultancy for individual projects with companies in the Group, including modification of traditional channels (mail order, telesales, counter sales and account managers) to complement the on-line sales strategy.
Bovis Europe Ltd, London, where I designed a reporting suite for an in-house developed procurements system to handle up to 50,000 suppliers on one project and developed the suite.
Total Control Systems (UK) plc, Redditch and Fyffes Group plc, Redditch, where I developed and implemented a Distribution and Warehousing system with integration of RF terminals for warehouse and outdoor use to automate dock-side warehouse operations, particularly for fragile and perishable cargoes.
Evesham Micros Limited, Evesham, where I worked with 300 staff and managers in operational, production, warehousing, retail and financial functions across the company to derive and formalize the business model, suiting new systems and standards to it (suitable for ISO 9002) and standardising hardware, software and methods. I was line manager for the five-man Network Team installing, supporting and enhancing the company LANs and WANs. During that period I developed a network strategy including Internet/Intranet applications, implemented the company’s first strategic information system (Platinum SQL NT), built a production Data Warehousing solution and modified business practices and methods based on the new systems and developed the company’s first e-business website, adding a further sales channel in addition to the showroom, mail order and telesales operations.
De La Rue Card Technology Ltd, Tewkesbury, a high profile proactive role that included developing systems to produce photo-image credit cards and to manage the data-flows required. I implemented an artificial-intelligence production scheduling system, implemented the company’s first ERP system, disseminated knowledge of the working of credit/debit card operations of major financial institutions, identified areas of potential cost savings and profit improvement and implementing solutions and managed the company LANs, software and hardware selection with evaluation, maintenance and support of current systems. I was also ISO 9001 auditor for the Group.
P&O Containers, London, where I provided end-user consultancy, advice and guidance and ran a Rapid Application Development function with eight analysts and developers, developed shipboard, shipping, warehousing and logistics systems, designed software and general RAD strategy, asset managed the installed base of 1,000 PCs, hardware and software, managed supplier control and negotiations, implementation support, cost-benefit analysis and cost justification and managed a Help Desk PC function for 6,000 users worldwide, with user profiling and problem management.
Fraser Williams Hertfordshire, St. Albans, where I carried out system development work and reverse-engineered systems to be replaced, developed banking reporting systems in the UK and Pakistan, documented and reverse-specified existing Datapoint systems at a city insurance broking organisation, implemented a builders merchants' package, developed an order processing system for a publishing company, developed a mailing-ordering system for department store and documented and reverse-specified existing regional systems for a major shipping organisation.
RHM Computing, Harlow, where I developed new systems and enhanced and maintained existing systems for the flour-milling division, developed order processing, load planning and pallet marshalling systems. I enhanced and maintained Flour Mill data processing functions including communications, payroll, invoicing, stock control and warehousing, management information reports, modelling, order processing, load planning and reconciliation and Millwrights (special payroll). I managed a Help Desk providing on-line support for remote systems.
Law Society of England and Wales, London, where I was in charge of computerised records containing details of legal practitioners. I converted manual records to computerised format, supervised the Punch Room, maintained the Law Society publications mailing system and designed system of data control and security.
